Carol Schroeder and Katrina Schroeder are pleased to announce the publication of their culinary guide to Danish food entitled Eat Smart in Denmark (Ginkgo Press, Madison). The debut party will feature the North American Kringle Competition. Attendees are invited to sample kringle from across the country before voting for the People’s Choice Award. There will also be an exclusive kringle flavor of Michael’s Frozen Custard and tastes of Kringle Cream liqueur from Death’s Door Distillery in Middleton, as well as sampling of other Danish foods such as æbleskiver and smørrebrød. The book debut party is free and open to the public.
About the North American Kringle Competition: It has been almost a decade since the last kringle competition that was open to bakeries from around the country (sponsored by Dana College, a Danish-American school in Blair Nebraska that has since closed). It’s time for bakeries in Wisconsin, California, Illinois and other states to vie for this impressive new North American Kringle Champion trophy! Local entrants have a special interest in winning, as the kringle was declared the Official State Pastry of Wisconsin on June 30, 2013, but entries will be carefully coded so that our celebrity panel of judges (including pastry specialists and members of the media) show no Badger bias.
