(Rescheduled from November 2020)
Eat Smart Culinary, Cultural, and Safari Tour to South Africa
April 4 to 12, 2022
Optional Extension to Zimbabwe and Botswana
April 12 to 17, 2022
It's going to be an amazing tour! Not only will we explore South African cuisine and wine, but we also include some time in the Timbavati and Umbabat Private Nature Reserves. These reserves form part of the Associated Private Nature Reserves region, which borders on Kruger National Park. They share fence-free borders with Kruger National Park, which allows animal species to move freely between these expansive parks. Guests can therefore look forward to exceptional game viewing moments. We will also visit Boulders Penguin Colony in Simon’s Town, home to a unique and endangered land-based colony of African Penguins. This colony is one of only a few in the world, and the site has become famous and a popular international tourist destination.
We are also offering you the option to travel to Botswana afterwards. Some folks who often travel with us and want to come on this tour inquired about the possibility of going to Botswana after the tour to South Africa finishes, so we prepared this itinerary for them and for anyone else going to South Africa who want this extension as well.
Once we receive your Online Signup Form, you will be emailed a Reservation Packet to be filled out and returned with your deposit.

08 APRIL - DAY 5: FRANSCHHOEK (B, L, D)
After breakfast, you will be picked up and taken to Babylonstoren where you can explore the gardens followed by a wine tasting. Housed in the old cow shed, Babel Restaurant is a wonderful mix of Cape Dutch architecture and contemporary glass walls that makes for a simple yet edgy environment in which to try the tasty yet often unconventional combinations. The farm-to-fork philosophy means the food served is seasonal and that reflects in the“pick, clean and serve” approach.
You will then drive to Fairview where you will enjoy a relaxed deli style lunch at the Goatshed. Everything we do is guided by our philosophy that fresh and homemade is always better. Over the past decade, we’ve worked hard to perfect our menu of delicious farm-style comfort food, award-winning selection of artisanal cheeses and our diverse range of handcrafted wines. We aim to bring the paddock and the farm as close to the table as we can, preparing our dishes from scratch and making sure we use as much of our produce as possible with as little waste as we can manage.
Enjoy the afternoon wandering around the quaint town of Franschhoek.
This evening you will dine at Petite La Colombe at Le Quartier Francais.

14 APRIL - DAY 3: VICTORIA FALLS, ZIMBABWE (B, L)
Guided Tour of the Victoria Falls
The Victoria Falls – Now In Its 150 Millionth Fantastic Year - Reaches Its Zenith In About May each year. It's a truly awe-inspiring experience – the sight, the sound, the smell; the humbling feeling that here indeed is Nature's Supreme Masterpiece. No photograph can begin to depict the reality…and nothing prepares you for your first sight.
This tour is conducted in the morning and afternoon. En route, you will be taken past the 'Big Tree' where you may stop and take photos. You will be accompanied through the rain forest by one of the qualified guides who will give a brief history of the Falls themselves as well as detail the flora, fauna, bird & wildlife and other points of interest. Guides are also happy to assist you with photographs while visiting this most spectacular of waterfalls. Raincoats are provided when needed. After your tour you will be transferred to the Lookout Café for some lunch.
The Lookout Café offers fresh, tasty daytime dining and a spectacular view. It is perched 394 feet above the turbulent rapids of the Zambezi River, overhanging a giant chasm of the Batoka Gorge, just down from the iconic Victoria Falls Bridge, which forms part of it’s spectacular backdrop. The semi open‐air café, apart from offering undoubtedly the best view in Victoria Falls, offers a range of refreshing beverages as well as a lively cocktail menu. The Lookout Café is the ideal spot for lunches in combination with a tour of the Victoria Falls or a high wire activity.
The spectacular helicopter flight over the Victoria Falls is known as the ‘Flight of Angels’.
David Livingstone famously wrote on seeing the Victoria Falls for the first time in 1855 that “Scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight”. Little did he know that 150 years later he could have exactly that opportunity. The best way to appreciate the true splendour of the Victoria Falls is to view them from the air. Our helicopters have specially designed ‘bubble shaped’ windows perfect for panoramic viewing and great photographic opportunities from all seats.
Due to the close proximity of Maramba Aerodrome to the Zambezi River, the helicopters are over the spectacular scenery of the Zambezi River within 30 seconds after take-off.
